Building a custom art and eCommerce website from scratch
Faian Studio needed an entirely new website that allowed them to sell their artwork. The end result needed to allow Faian Studio to upload images of their work regularly, set pricing, and make edits to the visual positioning of the works. It also needed to display the work exactly according to the vision that only Faian Studio knew. The main goal was to sell the art, so a system of eCommerce was necessary.
Building around a specific artistic vision
The vision itself was so specific that a template wouldn’t have done the job. The studio wanted the art to be displayed as though in an art gallery while keeping a pretty, floral-shop-type theme. It wanted a custom loading screen, custom image sizing, and a special login to an admin page that allowed the studio to make edits and uploads without having to log into the confusing and overly complicated WordPress menu that administrators normally see.
Multiple rounds of specific design choices
The process took only a few days, but involved multiple rounds of specific edits and design choices by Faian Studio. The colors, backgrounds, wording, header, fonts, displays, scroll features, loading screen, and images were all selected by the studio.
Control the artwork and the sales process from one custom system
Faian Studio is now able to upload images of the one-of-a-kind paintings, write titles and descriptions, price the pieces, adjust the size and location of the painting displays, edit and delete old listings, display artwork that is not for sale but shows the world Faian’s art, and more.
None of this was possible before, and the exact build can’t be found on any website-building service because it was all custom made.
Faian can manage everything needed for posting new works and every part of the sales process.
Revision was part of getting the project right
The hardest part was having to overhaul and redesign large sections of coding and design due to the client’s changing or clarifying requests. The studio needed many revisions to meet their vision exactly.
Although this was the most time-consuming part, it was the most valuable. A website that doesn’t look how the customer wants is ultimately a failed project. That takes honesty and openness on the part of the client, which is absolutely necessary when a client has a specific vision.
Making the whole site feel like a work of art
I am most satisfied with the design and aesthetics of the website that were accomplished while also meeting all of the technical requirements. The goal was for the whole site to feel like a work of art, and the end result reflects that and displays Faian Studio’s unique art style.
Creating a brand and a place for the artist and buyer to meet
This project is what is taking Faian Studio from a hobby or amateur artist into a professional artist whose work can be sold to customers who want the pieces in their homes. It is the means by which the artist and the lover of art can meet. In another sense, it is turning beauty into that which supports the artist.
The business was formed. In one sense, this website build allowed the creation of a brand and presence for a studio that nearly didn’t exist prior.
Adapting to needs without a precedent to follow
This project represents several things. It shows how I can build an entire site from scratch that meets the vision of my client. But it also represents the technical skills involved in setting up an eCommerce site with a custom admin studio page and login. And it represents how a clear and communicative client can make their vision a reality by being involved in every step that matters to them.
Faian Studio shows the adaptability of Davis Web Design in meeting unique needs. I was able to adapt to ideas that didn’t have precedent or an example to follow. Instead, the whole project was an innovation. It solved problems that I haven’t even seen before.
