Small Business Websites
Who does Davis Web Design LLC serve?
Davis Web Design LLC serves small businesses that are interested in a clearer online presence but do not have the technological skills, time, or interest to build a website themselves. The goal is to help businesses explain what they offer, look more professional online, and make it easier for potential customers to contact them.
Where does Davis Web Design LLC work?
Davis Web Design LLC is starting with Southern Oregon businesses, including Rogue River, Grants Pass, Medford, Central Point, Gold Hill, Eagle Point, White City, Jacksonville, Phoenix, Talent, Ashland, and surrounding areas. The goal is to start local and then branch out as far as the work allows.
What types of businesses are the best fit?
The best fit is a small business that needs a professional website but does not want to handle the technical side alone. Restaurants, contractors, local service businesses, thrift stores, boutiques, specialty shops, churches, and other local organizations can all be good fits when they need a clear website that explains what they offer.
What are the most important things a small business website needs?
The most important things for a small business website are contact information, location information, and a clear explanation of the services or products the business offers. It is important to have the information customers need before they come to your business available online.
What makes Davis Web Design LLC different from a large web agency?
Davis Web Design LLC is run by one person. Clients work directly with Joshua Davis instead of being passed between a sales team, designer, developer, and account manager. Joshua designs, develops, hosts, updates, and manages the websites himself using tools and workflows that help keep the process efficient and affordable.
Why is affordability such a big part of your business?
Affordability is the main emphasis because many small businesses need a website but do not have the budget for a large custom project. Davis Web Design LLC uses a simpler process, subscription pricing, and practical tools to make what could cost much more feel more manageable.
Who may not be the right fit for Davis Web Design LLC?
If you are mainly interested in building your own DIY website, learning how to be a developer, or using your own design skills to control every part of the site yourself, Davis Web Design LLC may not be the right fit. The goal here is to simplify a process that can be difficult and time-consuming for people who do not want to handle it themselves.
Web Design
Why do you focus so much on making websites simple?
The focus is on simplicity because web design can be intimidating and time-consuming. My goal is to simplify processes that can be difficult for people. A website should be clear, useful, and easy to understand without making the customer or the business owner feel overwhelmed.
How do you decide how a homepage should be structured?
I look at what the business primarily offers, the business name and tagline, and the services or products that need to be explained. Based on that, the hierarchy and layout are determined. Most of this information is already online for many businesses, so I can often build from what is publicly available. If you have specific requests, images, or sections you want added, that will affect the structure of the website.
How do you decide what sections a business website needs?
It depends on the business, what it offers, and how much information a potential customer would reasonably need before becoming an actual customer. Some businesses only need a simple set of sections. Others need more explanation, more photos, staff information, service pages, forms, or other details.
What makes a website easy for customers to use?
A website is easier to use when the language is clear, the buttons are simple, the fonts are readable, and nothing is broken. If a website cuts off information on mobile, loads slowly, has buttons that do not work, or uses text that does not stand out from the background, it becomes harder for customers to use.
Why are clear buttons and calls to action important?
Calls to action are important because they make the step between a customer deciding they are interested and actually contacting the business as quick as possible. A good website should make it easy for someone to call, text, email, get directions, fill out a form, or take the next step.
Can you build from information that is already online?
In many cases, yes. Publicly available information can be used as a starting point. If you want details included that are not already online, like specific pricing, special offers, service details, team information, or exact wording, you will need to provide that information.
Development and Technical Work
What does it mean that you code and develop the websites yourself?
It means I do not require additional people to code and develop the websites. I use the tools available to me to build in ways that are efficient and practical. That can include WordPress, custom HTML, custom CSS, JavaScript, Hostinger, research tools, AI tools, and the skills I already have.
How is your process different from using a drag-and-drop website builder?
My process is different because I use multiple tools instead of only dragging and dropping blocks into place. If you want to spend the time to learn a builder like Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy, or something similar, you can do that. But if you are not interested in learning how to design your own site, organize the content, handle the setup, and check all the details, you can ask me to build it for you.
Do you use custom code, WordPress, or both?
I use both, depending on the website. A one-page website is usually built in direct HTML. A multi-page website is usually built in WordPress, and depending on the project there may be custom code or custom plugins added for specific needs.
When do you use direct HTML instead of WordPress?
Direct HTML is usually used for one-page websites. It keeps the site simple, fast, focused, and easier to host when the business does not need staff logins, blog posts, sermon uploads, or a more complicated content system.
When do you use WordPress?
WordPress is used for multi-page websites and for projects that need more ongoing content management. Churches are a good example because they may need sermon uploads, staff pages, ministry pages, calendars, giving links, and content that staff can update themselves.
What kinds of custom tools can you add?
Some projects may need custom features. For example, a church website may need a custom sermon upload and sermon archive system. Not every feature makes sense for every plan, but if you have a specific problem, you can reach out and I can see whether we have the tools to address it.
How do you test a website before it goes live?
Throughout the process of designing and updating a website, I check it on both laptop and mobile. I also use online audit tools to look for issues. The goal is to catch problems before launch, especially layout issues, mobile problems, broken buttons, and readability problems.
What technical work do clients usually not see?
A lot of the technical work is behind the scenes: connecting domains, setting up hosting, checking mobile layout, checking buttons, improving image sizes, adding form settings, setting up basic security and backup practices where applicable, reviewing performance, and making sure the website is ready to be used by real people.
One-Page vs. Multi-Page Websites
Why is a one-page website sometimes better than a multi-page website?
A one-page website is not always better than a multi-page website, but it can be better when simplicity is the goal. It is quick to produce, simple for customers to use, and often includes the information a small business needs as an online billboard or business card.
Who is a one-page website best for?
A one-page website is best for businesses with a simple, streamlined product or service. It can work well for restaurants, contractors, local service businesses, boutiques, thrift stores, specialty shops, and businesses that want people to come in or contact them instead of listing every product online.
When is a one-page website not enough?
A one-page website may not be enough if you want a lot of information online. This could include detailed service pages, a large about section, a staff page, many photos, long explanations, blog posts, or content that would make one page too heavy or too slow to load.
Who needs a multi-page website?
A multi-page website is better for businesses and organizations that need more space to explain what they offer. If the services are complicated, the organization has a lot of content, or customers need more details before reaching out, a multi-page website may make more sense.
Can a business start small and expand later?
Yes. A business can start with a one-page website or simplified website and expand later. As the business grows, the website can add more pages, forms, booking links, menus, service pages, blog posts, or other features.
Is the Growth Plan the multi-page option?
Yes. Right now, multi-page websites are part of the Growth Plan. The Growth Plan is for businesses and organizations that need more than a simple one-page website and want more room for content, SEO, AEO, forms, and ongoing support.
Hosting and Domains
What is website hosting?
Hosting is the service that keeps your website online. Your website files need to live on a server so people can visit the site from their phone or computer. In simple terms, hosting is what makes the website available on the internet.
What is a domain name?
A domain name is the website address people type in, such as yourbusiness.com. It is separate from hosting. The domain points people to the website, while hosting is where the website files actually live.
Do you own a domain name forever?
Domain names are registered for set periods of time, usually yearly. You can usually keep a domain as long as you continue renewing it and follow the domain provider’s rules. If you stop renewing it, the domain can eventually expire and become available again.
What happens if I already own my domain?
If you already own your domain, the first step is identifying who you pay for that domain subscription. Once we know that, we can look at the instructions for connecting that domain to the website I am hosting. This often includes changing DNS or nameserver settings. That is one of the more technical parts, but I can walk you through it.
What happens if I do not have a domain yet?
If you do not have a domain and you want the simplest process, I can look for available domain options, send them to you, and purchase one as part of the plan. If I purchase the domain, it stays with the website during the subscription. If you want to own the domain yourself, you can purchase it through a domain provider and then we can connect it to the website together.
What is DNS or nameserver setup?
DNS and nameserver settings are what connect the domain name to the place where the website is hosted. The domain is the address, hosting is where the site lives, and DNS is part of what connects those two things together.
What parts of the setup do you handle?
If you do not want to purchase your own domain, I can handle the domain search, domain purchase, setup, website build, hosting, maintenance, and basic backup and security practices where applicable. No website can be guaranteed to never have a security or technical issue, but the goal is to make the setup simple and managed for you.
What parts might the customer need to help with?
The customer may need to help if they already own the domain, want to own the domain themselves, want admin access, want to edit parts of the site themselves, or want to integrate a tool that requires their login. Otherwise, the goal is simplicity: I handle the website and you let me know what needs to be changed.
Why does a customer need to keep paying for their own domain?
If you own your domain, you are responsible for keeping that domain registration active. That domain is what connects people to your website address. If it expires, the website may stop showing properly even if the hosting itself is still active.
What happens if a domain expires?
If a domain expires, it may stop connecting to the website. Depending on the domain provider, there may be a grace period or redemption period where the domain can still be renewed, sometimes with extra fees. If it is not renewed, it can eventually become available for someone else to register.
Can you move a business from an old website to a new one?
Yes, in many cases. If the business keeps the domain subscription active, the old hosting service can often be canceled when it is no longer needed, and the domain can be connected to the new website. The exact process depends on where the domain and old website are currently managed.
Mobile-Friendly Design and Website Speed
What does mobile-friendly actually mean?
Mobile-friendly is really about usability. The information should be accurate on both computer and phone, customers should be able to see everything, the buttons should work, the text should be readable, and nothing important should be cropped off.
Why is mobile design so important?
Many people view websites on their phones. If a website works on desktop but not on mobile, a business may be giving a large share of visitors a worse experience. Mobile design matters because customers need to find information quickly from the device they are actually using.
What problems do you see with DIY mobile websites?
One problem I have seen is that some builders have different editing views for desktop and mobile. Someone may update the desktop version and forget that the mobile version needs attention too. That can leave outdated information on one device and current information on another, which is a big issue for customers.
Why does website speed matter?
Website speed matters because visitors may click away if a website is too slow. If the page takes too long to load, they may never see the content, the services, the contact information, or the reason they should reach out.
What makes a website slow?
Websites can become slow because of poorly written code, too many layers of code, heavy JavaScript, large images, videos, or too much content being loaded at once. A website should be built in a way that makes sense for what it needs to do.
What do you do to help a website load faster?
Some speed improvements come from organizing the site better, splitting information and assets across multiple pages when needed, resizing images, simplifying unnecessary code, and checking for issues that slow the page down.
How do images affect website speed?
Images can affect website speed if they are too large. Large images take longer to load and can slow the site down as the browser renders the page. When possible, images should be sized and prepared for the way they are actually being used.
SEO and AEO
What is SEO?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It means structuring a website so search engines can better understand the business, services, location, and content on the site.
What basic SEO work is included?
Basic SEO is included in the Growth Plan. This can include clear page titles, useful headings, service descriptions, local business information, mobile-friendly structure, and content organized around real customer questions.
What is AEO?
AEO means Answer Engine Optimization or AI Engine Optimization. In simple terms, it means adding clear, helpful information to your website so AI tools and answer-based search systems can better understand what your business does and answer questions about it.
How is AEO different from SEO?
SEO is often focused on helping search engines read and organize a website. AEO is more focused on giving clear answers to real questions people may ask. Both matter, but AEO depends heavily on useful, human-provided information about the business.
Why do AI tools need clear website content?
AI tools need clear website content so they can understand, summarize, and sometimes cite information. As AI use grows, more people may ask tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity, or Claude instead of only using traditional search. Your website should be readable for humans first, and clear human writing can also help answer engines understand what you offer.
Why do you need answers from the business owner?
The best information usually comes from the person who knows the business. I can organize, edit, and place the content, but I am not the expert in every field. Your answers help make the website more accurate, specific, and useful.
Why do FAQs help with AEO?
FAQs help because they give direct answers to questions real people may already be asking. They also make it easier for search engines and answer engines to understand the services, process, limitations, and expertise of the business.
Can blog posts help a Growth Plan website?
Yes. Blog posts can add more information to your website about your products, services, industry, and customer questions. They give people and search tools more opportunities to understand what your business does. Blog posts are an option for Growth Plan websites, not the simple one-page plan.
Why is human-written content valuable?
Human-written content is valuable because it carries real experience, real context, and real expertise. In a world where a lot of content is generated quickly, specific human-written answers from a business owner can make a website more useful and more trustworthy.
What kinds of questions should a business answer on its website?
A business should answer questions it has real expertise in and questions customers often ask. Those answers can explain services, pricing factors, process, location, common problems, product details, and what someone should know before contacting the business.
Do you guarantee that SEO or AEO will bring more customers?
No. Davis Web Design LLC does not guarantee rankings, traffic, AI citations, leads, or sales. The goal is to build a clearer, more useful, and more search-friendly website foundation.
Forms, Features, and Integrations
Can you add contact forms to a website?
Yes. I can add contact forms to a website. Form submissions often use a third-party tool and are sent to an email address you provide.
Can you add click-to-call, text, email, and map buttons?
Yes. Click-to-call, click-to-text, email, and map buttons can be added to both one-page websites and Growth Plan websites.
Can you add booking links?
Yes, if you already have a booking service that can be linked or embedded. Davis Web Design LLC does not provide booking software by default. If you need help choosing or discussing booking software, that can be talked through for a Growth Plan website.
Can you add menus for restaurants?
Yes. Restaurant menus can be added to a website. Depending on how often the menu changes, we can talk about whether a simple one-page section or a more flexible Growth Plan setup makes more sense.
Can you add a Google Map or location section?
Yes. A map or location section can be added so customers can find the business more easily.
Can you connect third-party tools?
Yes, when the third-party tool supports linking or website integration. This can include booking links, giving links, payment links, forms, calendars, maps, and other tools depending on the website plan and the tool itself.
What features are better for the Growth Plan?
Features that require more pages, more management, more content, or more complicated integrations are usually better for the Growth Plan. This can include blog posts, advanced forms, booking discussions, church sermon tools, staff pages, detailed service pages, and larger SEO or AEO work.
Updates and Support
What counts as a website update?
A website update is any element of the website that you want changed and that requires me to log in and change it. This could include text, photos, hours, buttons, service details, announcements, menu items, or similar content updates.
What does not count as a normal update?
A bug, error, security issue, or technical problem that I am responsible for does not count as a regular update. If the website is not working correctly, you should let me know.
Why do included update hours not roll over?
Included update time does not roll over because my time is limited, and most websites should not need that much update time every month. The included time is meant for normal ongoing changes, not for storing up hours for a larger project later.
What happens if I need more update work than my plan includes?
If you need more work than your plan includes, you can either wait until the next month or request additional work billed at $60 per hour in 15-minute increments, with approval before the extra work is done.
Why is ongoing support useful for small businesses?
Ongoing support is useful because websites can become outdated or obsolete if nobody maintains them. If you do not know how to keep up your own website, having someone available to make changes and keep the site current can be a real benefit.
What does it mean that clients work directly with you?
It means Davis Web Design LLC is operated by Joshua Davis, and the websites are built by Joshua Davis. The communication is with me, the updates are handled by me, and I have my hands on the work inside the business.
Starting a Project
How do I start a project?
The best way to start is by filling out the Start a Project form. You can also text, email, or call, but the form is preferred because it collects the basic information needed to review the project.
What information do you need before building my website?
I need any information you want on the site that is not publicly available. I can often build from what is already online, but if you want specific pricing, service details, photos, branding, team information, menus, or policies included, you need to provide that information.
How fast can a one-page website be completed?
A one-page website may be completed in as little as one day, depending on the project, the available information, and current workload. That timeline is not guaranteed, but the one-page process is designed to be simple and fast compared to larger custom websites.
Do I get to review the website before it goes live?
Yes. The client gets to review the website before it goes live. One revision is included before launch.
What happens after the website is approved?
After the website is approved, it can go live once the domain connection, setup, or transfer steps are ready.
Do you offer a free website review?
Yes. Davis Web Design LLC can offer a no-obligation website review. For some projects, I may be able to build a first version before you make a final decision.
What is the main call to action?
The main call to action is Start a Project.
Ownership, Billing, and Cancellation
Do you only offer subscription websites?
Yes. Davis Web Design LLC currently offers subscription websites. This keeps pricing simple and allows hosting, support, updates, and maintenance to be part of the ongoing service.
Who owns the website during the subscription?
During the subscription, Davis Web Design LLC owns the website. If Davis Web Design LLC purchases the domain, that domain also stays with the website during the subscription. If the client already owns the domain, the client keeps ownership of the domain.
What happens if I cancel?
If a client cancels, website buyout and domain transfer options can be discussed if the client is interested. The client would need separate website hosting if they want to continue using the website outside the subscription.
Can I buy out the website later?
A website buyout may be possible if a client cancels or wants to move away from the subscription. The details would need to be arranged at that time.
Are monthly payments automatic?
Yes. Monthly payments are processed automatically through Stripe.
Are setup fees refundable?
No. Setup fees are not refundable.
Are prices guaranteed to stay the same?
No. Prices are not guaranteed to stay the same forever. Any pricing changes would be handled according to the service terms.
Do you guarantee more customers?
No. No website can guarantee more customers, rankings, traffic, leads, sales, or AI citations. A better website can help a business look more professional, make information easier to find, and make it easier for potential customers to contact the business.
Church Websites
Do you offer church website discounts?
Yes. Davis Web Design LLC offers discounted website services for Christian churches that reach out and ask about church pricing.
Why do churches receive a discount?
Churches often need clear communication and reliable website tools, but many churches also have limited budgets. I value the mission of Christian churches and have experience working around church staff, finance meetings, elder meetings, deacon meetings, and tech groups. The discount is both need-based and connected to valuing the work churches do.
Why do churches often need a multi-page website?
Churches often need more than one page because they may need service times, location, staff or leadership information, sermons, ministries, events, giving links, and doctrinal statements. That amount of information usually works better as a multi-page website.
Why is WordPress useful for church websites?
WordPress is useful for church websites because it can support pages, sermon systems, staff updates, calendars, announcements, and other content that may need to change over time.
Can church staff upload sermons themselves?
Yes. Church staff can be set up to upload sermons themselves. A church site can include sermon titles, audio files, dates, speakers, Bible passages, and search or filter options depending on the setup.
Can you connect a church calendar?
Yes. A church website can be connected with Apple Calendar or Google Calendar depending on what the church uses and what kind of display or integration is needed.
Can you integrate online giving?
Yes. I can link to or integrate third-party giving services depending on what giving platform the church already uses.
Can nonprofits ask about discounts?
Nonprofit organizations that are not churches can reach out as a standard business or ask about whether a discount could make sense. Those situations are considered case by case.
Send the details through the Start a Project form and I can review what you need.
